Fate of Kurdistan Parliament elections remains uncertain
Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has countered media allegations suggesting a halt in preparations for the upcoming Kurdistan Parliament elections slated for June. However, it appears to be only a matter of time before the the elections are formally postponed.
The Kurdish media outlet Rudaw reported today that IHEC had suspended its preparations for the Kurdistan Parliament elections. It cited several unnamed sources claiming that IHEC had instructed its branches in Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, and Duhok to suspend all activities. Additionally, it reported that IHEC staff working on printing ballots in the UAE had been told to suspend their work and return home.
