Fewer parties and independents set to contest November elections
Iraq’s electoral commission has released the final list of political entities set to compete in the November national election, showing a significant decline in both parties and independent candidates compared to the last national vote. Iraq Horizons analysis of the list reveals that a total of 72 entities, which include individual parties and coalitions, are registered to compete, along with 73 independent candidates. This marks a sharp contrast with the 2021 election, when 129 entities and 789 independent candidates contested.
