Iraq reaffirms November elections despite regional tensions and Sadr boycott
After weeks of uncertainty surrounding Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections, the country’s political leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to holding the vote on time. Despite regional tensions and renewed speculation about Muqtada Al-Sadr’s potential return to politics, there remains a clear determination to proceed with elections as scheduled on November 11.
On Tuesday, Iraq’s three presidencies convened a meeting at Baghdad Palace, bringing together PM Sudani, President Rashid, and Speaker Mashhadani. The meeting addressed ongoing regional developments, reaffirmed the government’s policy of shielding Iraq from external conflict, and emphasized the importance of maintaining domestic stability.
