Iraq seeks diplomatic recourse over Israel airspace violations
Iraq has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations, condemning what it described as “the Zionist entity’s blatant violation” of its sovereignty after Israel allegedly used Iraqi airspace to attack Iran on October 26. Iraqi government spokesperson Basim Al-Awadi confirmed the submission of this complaint today:
“Iraq has officially submitted a protest note to the UN Secretary-General and Security Council, condemning the flagrant violation committed by the Zionist entity for breaching Iraq's airspace and sovereignty, using Iraqi airspace to carry out an attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran on October 26. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage with the American side on this breach per the Strategic Framework Agreement, underscoring the United States’ commitment to Iraq’s security and sovereignty.
The Iraqi government reiterates its firm commitment to Iraq’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It is actively working across various channels to address these violations, emphasizing that Iraqi airspace or land cannot be used for attacks on other countries, especially neighboring states with which Iraq shares mutual respect and interests.
This stance reflects Iraq's dedication to maintaining regional stability by preventing its territory from being exploited in regional conflicts and its support for conflict resolution through dialogue and mutual understanding.”
Images and videos shared across social media reportedly showed missile fragments from the Israeli strikes that had fallen north of Baghdad. On Sunday, Hadi Al-Amiri of the Badr Organization accused the United States of complicity by facilitating these airspace incursions.
