KDP and PUK draw closer to a deal on the presidency

A breakthrough in negotiations between Iraq’s two largest Kurdish parties is looking increasingly likely. The KDP and PUK appear to be hammering out a compromise on the presidency that would go a long way towards unlocking the stalled government formation process. The demise of the Tripartite Alliance has reinvigorated negotiations among the old-time Kurdish rivals that could lead to the revival of a unified Kurdish bloc.
