Resistance factions issue defiant statements
Several Iraqi resistance factions have issued statements of defiance following the killing of 3 US servicemen on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sudani government condemned the attack and Coordination Framework figureheads have opted not to comment.
Tensions are on the rise as Iraqi leaders anticipate American retaliation for the attack near the Syrian-Jordanian border that killed 3 US servicemen and injured over 40. PM Sudani’s spokesman issued a statement condemning the attack and urged “an end to the cycle of violence”.
But a number of resistance factions have expressed defiance at the threat of an American response. Kataib Imam Ali’s Shibl Al-Zaidi, Kataib Sayyid Al-Shuhada’s Abu Alaa Al-Walai, and Harakat al-Nujaba all issued statements on social media saying that they would not be intimidated by US threats, and referenced the ongoing murder of civilians in Gaza as justification for the attacks on US targets. Kataib Hezbollah has yet to issue a statement.
