Sadr rebukes Sudani while doubling down on election boycott
Muqtada Al-Sadr has once again underscored his intention to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections and has restated the rationale behind this stance to his followers.
In a cryptic message conveyed on social media through his online persona, Salih Mohammed al-Iraqi, he declared that the real alternative to boycotting is replacing the current political faces root and branch with the hope that genuine reform could begin, as well as ending subservience to foreign agendas and the proliferation of arms outside of state control. But Sadr’s message cast doubt about the plausibility of such reforms being undertaken by the political elite, thereby justifying his refusal to contest the election.
