Sistani’s representative urges moral clarity on Gaza
The Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf has articulated its clearest stance yet on the conflict in Gaza and the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe, making clear that its position on the regional crisis is not one of neutrality or detachment.
In remarks by Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s representative, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, to an international delegation attending a conference on the Palestinian cause hosted by the Imam Husayn Shrine in Karbala, he emphasized the need for a clear moral stance on what he described as the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, Jerusalem, and the West Bank.
Central to Karbalai’s message was a warning against apathy and indifference. “Some think this struggle does not concern them or lies outside their daily concerns,” he cautioned. “But that is a grave mistake. What happens in Gaza and Jerusalem is a direct assault on our own values and a threat to the future of our generations. The starvation, killing, and displacement we witness there are also violations against our own principles.”
