Sudani spotlights anti-corruption priorities
PM Sudani’s visit to the Commission of Integrity (COI) last week underscored his government’s key priorities within the anti-corruption space, namely, asset recovery and holding senior officials to account. However, the tools at his disposal remain weak.
Sudani met with the Integrity Commission’s senior leadership last week, days after the COI’s chief, Judge Haider Hanun, met with the National Security Service’s head, Abu Ali Al-Basri, to discuss the work of the Higher Commission for Anti-Corruption.
Public statements issued following Sudani’s visit emphasized the importance of protecting public funds and fighting corruption as a means to prioritize reconstruction and public services. Enhancing public trust and confidence in the political system and the performance of state institutions were also highlighted.
