Government proposes 6% increase in 2024 budget
The government has finally sent its amended budget tables for 2024 to parliament for approval after months of delays. Parliament is expected to vote on the revised figures before it goes into recess.
PM Sudani announced in a press conference on Sunday that the revised budget tables for this year had been approved by the Cabinet. The figures show a 12 trillion IQD increase in overall expenditure, equating to a 6% rise, and a revised projection of revenues by an additional 10 trillion IQD.
The tables confirm what was previously suspected: the government has significantly increased its obligations to public payroll and social welfare spending.
